Chelsea attempted to hijack Paris Saint-Germain’s move for Neymar last month, according to Telefoot.

The French TV channel have been chronicling how the world record transfer unfolded, and they have reported that the Blues entered in the fray in July when the Brazilian still had doubts about leaving Barca.

The reason why Chelsea were unable to convince the forward was mainly due to the lack of key influencers who could have persuaded the 25 year old into making a move to England rather than France.

Telefoot say PSG’s newest signing at the time Dani Alves was crucial in the negotiations, while fellow Brazilians Marquinhos and Lucas Moura were also said to be constantly on the phone to the superstar.

Chelsea and Manchester City were the two teams other than PSG looking to sign Alves this summer, and it seems his decision to move to the French capital was also an important reason why Neymar chose to leave Barcelona for Paris earlier this month.
