Valencia general manager Mateu Alemany has denied that Chelsea have made a formal approach for the La Liga club’s right back Joao Cancelo.

Reports last week had suggested the Blues would look to pursue a deal for the Portuguese international but when asked by the local newspaper Super Deporte about the Premier League side’s interest in the 23 year old, Alemany said:

“There is no firm offer, I do not know.”

Chelsea have been frustrated in their attempts to sign a right wing back to support Victor Moses. The Nigerian was suspended for the club’s opening day defeat to Burnley on Saturday, with Cesar Azpilicueta having to move from his centre back role to play on the right flank.

Antonio Conte’s side have already missed out on two right backs this summer with Dani Alves opting to join Paris Saint-Germain and Danilo making the switch to Manchester City.

Cancelo has been linked with a move to replace Alves at Juventus while Tottenham are also reportedly looking at the full back as a possible replacement for Kyle Walker.
