Football pundit Jamie Redknapp believes Chelsea have a penalty box predator in striker Alvaro Morata, and that he offers a very different threat to previous first choice forward Diego Costa.

Costa’s physicality was his strongest attribute according to Redknapp, but writing in his column for the Daily Mail, he says that Morata’s movement and instincts inside the 18 yard box are what make him stand out as a striker:

“He may not be the most physically imposing of strikers but Alvaro Morata knows how to work the 18-yard box as well as anyone. As he showed at Real Madrid and now against Burnley and Everton this season, he is also a superb header of the ball. Morata is nowhere near as physical as Diego Costa but his movement is excellent, nipping in behind defenders.”

Despite not starting the first Premier League of the season, Morata has already scored twice and made two assists in his three league appearances for the Blues. His set up the opener for Cesc Fabregas against Everton on Sunday and scored the second to secure victory.

The player himself has however pleaded for patience as he looks to adapt to the pace and physicality of the Premier League, but there are certainly some very good signs from his first few games that he will prove a suitable replacement for the outgoing Costa.
