Hoffenheim head coach Julian Nagelsmann has stated that full back Jeremy Toljan will remain at the Bundesliga club despite only having a year left on his contract.

The Germany Under 21 international has been heavily linked with a switch to the Premier League with both Chelsea and Tottenham reportedly keen on signing the player.

Even with his contract situation, it seems Hoffenheim are happy to keep the defender despite the risk of losing the player for nothing next summer. Thee 22 year old has played a full part in the German side’s pre-season preparations, and Nagelsmann told Bild he would not have picked him to play if he knew the player was going to be sold:

“If I want a player to go, I tell him to his face and do not take him to the game like a little boy. That would be a sign of leadership weakness for me and I do not believe in doing that.”

Toljan did not travel to England for the 2-1 win over Derby County on Saturday though, but Nagelsmann says this was because the player’s physical fitness was lacking. The full back returned later than other players for pre-season training after his exertions playing for Germany at the European Under 21 championships in June.
