Chelsea were considering signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak before they bought Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko instead, according to L’Equipe.

The Polish international only signed for PSG from Sevilla last summer for €35m, but despite being managed by his former Sevilla boss Unai Emery, he struggled for game time with just 19 appearances in all competitions.

L’Equipe reports that the Blues contacted the Ligue One side about Krychowiak in July but the French club were said to be very unresponsive, with sporting director Antero Henrique busy concentrating on other deals such as the world record purchase of Neymar.

PSG are now believed to be regretting their lack of communication with Chelsea. They have placed the 27 year old on the transfer list and don’t have bids anywhere close to the “significant” offer proposed by the Blues. Valencia are now the team that are keenest to sign Krychowiak and have been in negotiations for the midfielder for the past few weeks.
