Chelsea’s move for Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater depends on the Foxes signing a replacement before the transfer deadline tonight, according to the Sun.

Reports in Portugal suggest that the favourite to replace Drinkwater at the King Power stadium is Sporting Lisbon midfielder Adrien Silva. The 28 year old was a target for Leicester last summer but a deal was not finalised before the transfer window shut, and the Record newspaper are now reporting that the Foxes are again trying to secure the signing of the Portuguese international on deadline day.

Goal.com correspondent Nizaar Kinsella says that Chelsea have made a third offer for Drinkwater in the region of £32million today. Leicester have been holding out for closer to £40m after previously rejecting bids from the Blues for £15m and £25m.

Whether the latest reported offer will be enough could very much depend on Drinkwater’s club agreeing a fee for Sporting’s Silva. Portuguese newspaper O Jogo reported back in June that the Portuguese side won’t let the player go for less than €30m (£27.6m).
