Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto has told friends that he wants to leave the club to pursue first team football, according to Don Balon.

The Spanish publication reports that the 25 year old was unhappy at being left out of the starting line up by manager Ernesto Valverde for the club’s 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup.

Valverde chose the midfield trio of Andres Iniesta, Sergo Busquets and Ivan Rakitic which meant Roberto had to settle for a place on the bench. The midfielder had been utilised as a right back by previous coach Luis Enrique but he will have to compete with two other full backs this season with new signing Nelson Semedo joining from Benfica.

Don Balon report that Chelsea are prepared to meet Roberto’s €40million release clause and will offer a significant wage increase to the player. Reports have also suggested that Manchester United and Juventus are looking at the Barca star.
