Chelsea are interested in signing Real Madrid defender Nacho, according to AS. The Spanish newspaper also reports that Roma and Villarreal are monitoring the player’s situation.

The Blues are believed to be seeking to strengthen their numbers further in central defence before August 31st and see the Spanish international as a potential option.

The centre back is said to be unhappy about the lack of game time he has had under manager Zinedine Zidane and has had meetings with Real’s management over the past few days to clarify his future.

The Spaniard believes he missed out on a place at Euro 2016 because of the fact he isn’t first choice at club level, and the fact that he is still not seen as a first team regular has given him cause for concern about his chances of making it into the 2018 World Cup squad.

Real are however reluctant to let Nacho leave. The defender has a contract until 2021 and can play right across the back line. The La Liga champions believe replacing him would be very expensive as such a late stage in the transfer window.
