Chelsea midfielder Mario Pasalic will join Spartak Moscow on a season long loan, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Croatian international will reportedly sign a two year contract extension before moving to Russia. There is however some confusion regarding the 22 year old’s contract situation.

Transfermarkt reports that Pasalic only has a deal until next summer, which has also been reported by other news outlets. Di Marzio however reports that the player will extend his deal from 2019 until 2021, which immediately puts into question the credibility of the story.

Seville based newspaper Estadio Deportivo are pretty adamant that Pasalic has verbally agreed to join Real Betis this summer. They have also previously dismissed reports that have said that Spartak were the favourites to sign the midfielder.

Pasalic featured on Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the Far East but in his three years at Stamford Bridge, he has never played a competitive match for the club. He has spent his time on loan at Elche, Monaco and AC Milan over the past three seasons.
