Chelsea could step in to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, according to Playingfor90.com‘s David Gate.

West Ham have been locked in talks with the Portuguese club over signing the 25 year old but the Evening Standard are reporting today that the Hammers are becoming increasingly frustrated by Sporting’s intransigence on their £37.5million asking price.

The Portuguese club want West Ham to meet the midfielder’s release clause but so far the Premier League side have fallen £5million short of their demands, and there is also a dispute over how payments for the deal would be structured.

Chelsea are involved in their own battle with Leicester City over Danny Drinkwater. The Blues’ first offer was reportedly £15million but the Foxes are holding out for over £30m. Carvalho could be alternative option if a deal can’t be agreed for the England international, but he would likely prove more expensive to land than the Leicester star.
