La Liga club Real Betis have explored the possibility of signing Chelsea striker Diego Costa on a six month deal, according to MuchoDeporte.com.

The 28 year old is seeking a temporary switch before he joins Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window, and it seems like the Seville club were considering offering the Spanish international a lifeline.

MuchoDeporte report that Betis director Luis Oliver is a good friend of Atletico president Miguel Angel Gil Marin. The plan proposed was for Betis to sign Costa for six months and then sell the player on to the Madrid club when the side’s transfer ban was lifted.

Betis would have been a good candidate as they are not involved in a European competition, allowing Costa to participate in the Champions League in the second half of the season for Atletico.

Costa is believed to be keen on a temporary switch to ensure he doesn’t miss any football during a World Cup year. A similar deal worked with Vitolo joining Las Palmas this summer ahead of a move to Atletico, but it seems a Betis switch is not on the cards currently. MuchoDeporte say the cost of signing Costa would be too much for the La Liga side.
