PSV Eindhoven sporting director Marcel Brands is hoping there can be a breakthrough in negotiations with Chelsea to sign midfielder Marco van Ginkel before the “end of this week,” according to the Eindhoven Dagblad.

The Dutch newspaper report that PSV are currently desperately short of central midfield players, and they are just two weeks away from their first competitive match of the season.

After finishing third in the Eredivisie table behind Feyenoord and Ajax last season, the Dutch side will enter the third qualifying round of the Europa League, with first leg ties taking place on the 27th July.

Brands is said to be hoping to have a deal in place for van Ginkel before that game. Chelsea have been holding out for £10m for the 24 year old, and with PSV keen to recruit the Dutch international very soon, the Blues are no doubt making sure they get the highest possible transfer fee from the Eredivisie club.
