Marseille have set their sights on signing Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas this summer, according to Foot-sur7.fr.

The French website reports that the Ligue One club’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta is seeking to persuade the Spaniard to make the switch to France. Zubizarreta was Barcelona’s Director of Football between 2010 and 2015, and played an integral role in the signing of Fabregas from Arsenal in 2011.

One of the big stumbling blocks for any move going ahead though is wages. Fabregas is currently on €8million a season (£135,000 a week) at Stamford Bridge, according to Foot-sur7 and it is unlikely that a deal would go ahead unless the 30 year old is willing to take a pay cut.

The French club are hoping that the offer of more first team football could be attractive to Fabregas. The midfielder did play 37 times in all competitions last season, scoring seven goals and providing 15 assists, but he made just 18 starts under Antonio Conte.
