Tuttosport is reporting that Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has now moved ahead of Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic in their attempts to sign a central midfielder this summer.

The German international only has a year left on his contract at Anfield and the Italian newspaper suggests that the “next 48 hours” could be crucial in whether the 23 year old opts to leave the Reds or signs a new deal.

Manchester United made a second bid of £35million for Matic but the Blues are reportedly holding out for £50million. The former Benfica player is keen on a move to Old Trafford but there is a sizeable £15million gap between the two clubs which may be difficult to bridge.

Inter Milan were said to be the other option for Matic but things have gone quiet on that front in recent days, leaving United the firm favourites for the Serbian currently, especially if Juve cool their interest.
