Chelsea have placed a €40m (£35.3m) valuation on midfielder Nemanja Matic, according to Sport Mediaset. The Italian TV station reports however that Inter’s owners the Suning Group will not meet the Premier League champions’ asking price.
Matic’s future at Stamford Bridge is increasingly in doubt with the Blues closing in on the signing of Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko. With only two holding midfield slots in the starting eleven, Matic will be the one to lose out with PFA Player of the Year N’Golo Kante lining up alongside his fellow countryman at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield.
Italian newspaper the Corriere Dello Sport reports Inter are keen to take Matic but it seems that the Serie A side will only make a bid if the 28 year old’s price tag comes down before the end of the transfer window.
In the mean time, Sport Mediaset are reporting that Inter will pursue alternative targets with Sevilla’s Steven N’Zonzi and Fiorentina’s Matias Verino both being monitored.
