Former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly is hoping that the club will make changes to the playing squad before the end of the transfer window.

The French legend was speaking to Omnisport (quotes via Soccer Way) about what manager Antonio Conte needs to compete on all fronts next season. The ex AC Milan player says he hopes and expects more signings so the Blues can battle for silverware next season:

“We need more if you want to compete on these two different competitions, Champions League and Premier League, so we are hoping [for] more, we are really hoping [for] more.”

“This year is a special market, we can see that it’s very tough. Everyone is moving round, the prices are very high, so let’s wait till the end. Chelsea knows, really, how to buy players so I am sure they will trust the philosophy and desire for Conte.”

After refusing to pay agent Mino Raiola as much as Manchester United to facilitate the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Everton, Chelsea are now looking at a number of potential options to replace the outgoing Diego Costa.

Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata and Torino’s Andrea Belotti are the three main contenders for the number nine position but currently, as the Daily Telegraph‘s Matt Law reports, the Blues have yet to decide which of the three will be their priority signing. They are reportedly hedging their bets and talking to a number of agents before making a final decision.
