Chelsea may use some of the money from the sale of Diego Costa to Atletico Madrid to make a move for Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez, Madrid newspaper AS reports.

The Spanish publication says the Blues were very close to sealing a deal for the Colombian in the January transfer window after Oscar’s move to China. The 25 year old however opted  to stay with Real for the remainder of the season instead.

Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United have been heavily linked with the attacking midfielder as well over the past few months. Rodriguez has struggled for game time since Zinedine Zidane became the La Liga club’s manager eighteen months ago.

He still managed 32 appearances last season, although he was restricted to just 21 starts in all competitions. His eight goals and ten assists did however contribute to Real’s La Liga title win, and to the club’s second consecutive Champions League success.
