Algemeen Dagblad are reporting that FC Groningen are close to signing Chelsea right back Todd Kane on a season long loan.

Kane missed most of the 2016/17 season with a cruciate knee ligament injury he picked up whilst out on loan at NEC Nijmegen. He sustained it during a league match against PEC Zwolle in April last year. He returned to fitness to play three matches for Chelsea’s Under 23 side in February and March but he hasn’t played a game of first team football for well over a year.

Despite his injury problems, the Blues offered Kane a new three year contract back in September, allowing for a loan move to take place without any risk of losing the player on a free transfer.

Groningen no doubt will be hoping he replicates the form he showed at NEC before his injury. He played 31 times in the Eredivisie, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
