Atletico Madrid will take part of the £71m (€80m) transfer fee for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spaniard actually started life at Atletico’s academy between 2005 and 2007, before joining Real’s youth setup, via Getafe, in 2008. According to FIFA rules, if a player is sold to a foreign team, the teams who contributed to the player’s youth development are awarded a small percentage of the transfer fee.

Due to Morata spending three years with Atletico between the ages of 12 and 15, they will be given 1% of Real Madrid’s €80m, which is €800,000 or £710,000. Getafe will also be given a 0.25% share of the transfer fee.

Mundo Deportivo point out that Atletico could benefit in two ways from Morata signing for Chelsea. They believe Diego Costa’s departure back to Spain could run more smoothly now the Blues have an adequate replacement for the 28 year old.

Morata however still has to pass a medical before completing a move to the Premier League but the deal seems to be very close to being finalised.
