Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is unlikely to agree to a new contract before the start of the Premier League season, according to Het Nieuwsblad.

The Belgian newspaper reports that the Blues number one is not happy with how negotiations are progressing currently. The keeper earns less than £100,000 a week and is seeking parity with another Premier League stopper, Manchester United’s David De Gea, who reportedly earns close to double Courtois’s current salary.

There is no danger of the player wanting to leave Stamford Bridge though. Courtois has two years left on his current deal and has confirmed in recent weeks that he is happy to stay at the club.

Manager Antonio Conte is also keen for Courtois to remain with Chelsea, and it looks as though that despite the reported pause in negotiations for the time being, there will be agreement on a new contract in the not too distant future.
