Chelsea are monitoring Sporting Kansas defender Erik Palmer-Brown, according to Metro New York.
The American publication reports a “league source” has told them that” several top European clubs” are looking at the 20 year old after his performances for the USA at the Under 20 World Cup.
Chelsea, along with Real Betis, Porto, PSV Eindhoven and an unnamed Belgian club are in the mix to land the centre back, while Manchester City are also believed to have a long standing interest in the player.
Metro New York report that Chelsea would loan Palmer-Brown to feeder club Vitesse Arnhem in order for the American to get first team football, while City are offering a similar arrangement by loaning him out to another Dutch side NAC Breda.
Palmer-Brown captained USA to the CONCACAF Under 20 Championship title back in March, and performed the same role at the Under 20 World Cup where his side lost out in the quarter finals, falling to a 2-1 extra time defeat to eventual finalists Venezuela.
