Chelsea have set their sights on bringing in former Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero on a free transfer, according to the Sun.

The 35 year old was released by City at the end of his contract this summer after spending three years at the Etihad stadium. Blues boss Antonio Conte is seeking a competent number two after the departure of Asmir Begovic to Bournemouth for a reported £10m.

Caballero had been Pep Guardiola’s number one choice for a large part of last season due to Claudio Bravo’s poor form and injury problems. He made 25 starts in all competitions, making his last appearance for City in the 5-0 win over Watford at Vicarage Road on the final day of the Premier League season.

Despite his experience of playing both in La Liga for Malaga and in the Premier League, Caballero has never been capped by Argentina’s senior side, having only played at Under 20 and Under 23 level for his country.
