Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has told Spanish radio they will not attempt to buy Chelsea striker Diego Costa before the January transfer window.
The player himself suggested that the La Liga side could sign him and then loan him out for the first six months in order to get around their transfer ban. But talking on Cadena SER radio programme El Larguero (quotes via AS), Cerezo has explained they will not consider making any bid before the end of 2017:
“It would be silly to tell you anything because he is a Chelsea player and there can be no indication that we are interested. Four or five months to think if we are going to need someone in January.”
With the Spanish international having already dismissed the possibility of moving to China, and AC Milan having pulled out of the deal due to the player’s contract demands, Costa’s options to move this summer are becoming increasingly limited.
He has already stated that he would find it too hard to sit on the sidelines waiting for a move to Atletico to go through in January so at this moment of time, his future remains as uncertain as ever.
