Atletico Madrid have entered the running to sign Anderlecht midfielder Leander Dendoncker, according to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.

The Spanish club are banned from signing players this summer but they want to seal a deal ahead of a move in the January transfer window. The 22 year old has been linked with a move to Chelsea and Manchester United over the past couple of weeks.

The Belgian international is valued at €30m by his club and after the midfielder only signed a new contract back in October, it looks unlikely that Anderlecht will agree to a deal for less than their asking price.

Dendoncker is generally used as a holding midfielder but has also been utilised as an auxiliary centre back by the Belgian champions. Last season, he played 57 games in all competitions, scoring six goals.

The Belgian is likely an alternative if a move for Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko doesn’t work out. The Blues have reportedly agreed a £35million fee for the Frenchman with the Ligue One title winners.
