The agent of Lorenzo Insigne has revealed that the player never had any intention of leaving Napoli despite being heavily linked with a move Chelsea.
The 26 year old signed a new five year deal to remain at the San Paolo back in April, and the player’s representative Franco Della Monica told Tuttomercatoweb that Insigne was always expecting Napoli to come up with a contract offer that would satisfy his demands:
“The rumours are cyclical with Lorenzo [being linked] abroad for years. We always knew the various situations, but Lorenzo was waiting for Napoli… Now married to the Neapolitan club, he is absolutely delighted about that.”
Insigne had a difficult campaign with Napoli last season with his contract situation causing tension with Partenopei fans. In a Champions League group stage match against Besiktas in December, he was visibly upset when being substituted after being booed off the pitch by supporters.
After a tough first few months of the season where he failed to score a league goal, he regained his goalscoring touch in November, and went on to score an impressive 20 goals in all competitions, whilst also providing 12 assists.
It seems any future bid for the Italian international is unlikely to succeed with Insigne likely to remain at Napoli for the best years of his career.
