Much has been made about Chelsea’s impressive group of young players…

After all, the Blues’ academy has been one of the most successful in Europe in recent years – with the team dominating a number of age groups and winning a plethora of trophies.

However, whilst the developmental system continues to produce quality, trophy-laden players – very few of them actually get to see the light of day at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s youth policy is conservative, at best, and their approach simply isn’t conducive to long-term success.

Antonio Conte looks to be changing that somewhat, with the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Nathaniel Chalobah getting a chance this season – but he must go one step further.

Chelsea have a number of players that should be getting a chance, and this, the first in a series of posts, will display some of the players most deserving of a first-team promotion.

With that said, Conte seriously needs to promote these 2 young defenders into the Chelsea first team – agreed?

 Jake Clarke-Salter

Jake Clarke-Salter is a young central defender currently playing on loan at Bristol Rovers.

Central defence is one area in which Chelsea have a lot of depth, but if anyone is deserving of a place in the first team it is young Clarke-Salter.

A powerful, technical, quick centre-half – Salter looks destined to make it, and he has been vital for Chelsea’s developmental teams over the last few years.

He already has an impressive trophy case despite his tender years, with Chelsea winning culture making a significant impression on the youth.

Jay Dasilva

Out of all of Chelsea’s young players, Jay Dasilva is undoubtedly one of those with the most potential.

Though slight in frame, Dasilva is quick, resolute and technical on the ball – making life a menace for defenders and attackers alike.

A natural left-sided player, Dasilva is able to play at left-back or left-wing, and the wing-back role is absolutely perfect for him.

With question marks over the long-term future of Marcos Alonso, he could be the man to step up.
