It was touted as a season-defining fixture, and it certainly lived up to expectation…
Chelsea, who have been so dominant this season, were looking to secure a vital 3 points against Liverpool – a side that, whilst they have gone off the rails somewhat over the last few weeks, are undoubtedly one of the Premier League’s most threatening outfits.
They showed that threat, too, with Chelsea on the back foot for much of the game. Liverpool dominated possession for much of the fixture, with Chelsea oftentimes limited to breakaway attacks and set pieces.
The Blues, against the run of play, managed to pick up a vital goal in the first half, with David Luiz scoring a sensational free kick – but this was cut short later in the game. Diego Costa would then go on to miss a penalty and cost Chelsea the 3 points – leaving some fans disappointed.
However, the magnitude of the point earned cannot be understated – with Chelsea’s gap at the top of the Premier League table now stretching to 9 points.
The result was certainly 1 point earned, rather than 2 points lost – and the Chelsea fans on Twitter definitely recognise that.
