Antonio Conte’s squad may be small, but there are a number of young players that are quickly moving through the ranks in Chelsea’s developmental system…
For the most part this season, Antonio Conte has opted to utilise a fairly standardised team. Key players like Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante have featured predominantly – whilst Chelsea’s defensive line has remained unchanged for months.
The system and group of players is clearly working, considering how impressive the Blues have been this season – but there is one major drawback to Conte’s methods.
The players that play regularly are enjoying themselves and getting game time, but the fortunes of those not involved are decidedly less so. Certain players have hardly had a chance all season, and no area has remained as unchanged as the Chelsea defence.
Conte has a host of young defenders to choose from, but his side’s fine form have meant that they haven’t had a chance – and so a loan might be calling.
With that said, Conte needs to loan out these 2 exciting defenders this week – agreed?
Todd Kane
Todd Kane has been around for a while, and whilst he has often impressed on loan and in the Chelsea academy – he has never been given a chance.
It’s a shame, as he really is a decent player. A solid all-rounder, he is quick and powerful going forward, whilst he is also strong defensively.
His main problem in recent years has been injury, with the Englishman unfortunately succumbing to a number of injury woes lately.
Add to this the strength in his preferred right-back role that is available to Antonio Conte and it becomes clear as to why he isn’t getting a game. A decent Championship loan could be perfect for him.
Ola Aina
Ola Aina has had a bit of game time this season, but he deserves to be getting so much more. If it wasn’t for the incredible form of Victor Moses, the young Englishman would have undoubtedly been given more of a chance.
Quick, strong, attacking – he is everything that Conte would want in a wing-back.
Victor Moses is never going to be a long-term solution for Chelsea as a wing-back, so Conte needs to prepare for the future. Ola Aina is the future at Chelsea – and a short-term loan move could do him wonders.
