After losing to Tottenham in their last Premier League game, the pressure was certainly on the Blues against Leicester City…

Leicester won the Premier League last season, of course, and whilst they have looked poor this season – the game was never going to be easy for Chelsea. To make matter worse, a crushing 2-0 defeat against Tottenham a couple of weeks ago had ended Chelsea’s unbeaten streak – and that had left many questioning whether Conte’s side were about to head on a downwards spiral.

Chelsea were expected to beat Leicester City, of course, but how the Blues would perform was certainly unknown – so all eyes were on Antonio Conte’s side.

What followed was what Chelsea fans have seen all season long – with a confident 3-0 victory drawing parallels with Chelsea’s impressive displays before the Tottenham defeat.

Goals from Pedro and Marcos Alonso were enough to seal the points for Antonio Conte’s side – surely leaving the Italian boss feeling very good about the rest of the season. He will undoubtedly have taken a few bits of key information from the game, too.

With that said, here are 3 things Conte learned from Chelsea’s dominant 3-0 demolition of Leicester City…

 Who Needs Costa?

Diego Costa was absent in the game, leaving many to question whether Chelsea would still be able to leave with the 3 points. The Spaniard has been vital for the Blues all season – and he has very often been the matchwinner.

Chelsea showed no signs of needing him against the Premier League champions, though, with defender Marcos Alonso proving deadly in front of goal – showing the accuracy that Costa has been famed for this season.

Utilising Hazard in place of Costa worked well, and Conte will know that he can rely on the Belgian going forward – regardless of what happens to Diego Costa.

 Marcos Alonso

Marcos Alonso has, arguably, been one of Chelsea’s worst players this season – with the Spaniard struggling against some of the Premier League’s strongest teams.

He has always looked good going forward – but defensively he has struggled, leaving many to question whether he is good enough.

Well, there is nobody doubting that now. He was the best player on the pitch against Leicester City, and he looked unstoppable.

Victor Moses has received plaudits this season for his role, but Alonso was every bit as good as the Nigerian has been all season – and Conte must recognise his improvement.

Bounce Back

Chelsea haven’t had to deal with a situation like this for a while. They came off of a big defeat against Tottenham, and whilst it is easy to win when you’re on a good streak – it is much harder to bounce back from a tough loss.

Chelsea appeared to have no such concerns, though, with the Blues firing to a 3-0 win – with there no sign of a hangover from the defeat against the Lilywhites.

The Blues will need to learn to move on from results and get past them this season if they want to win – and Conte will be pleased that his side were able to forget about the nerves following defeat against Tottenham.
