2 reasons why Diego Costa simply must not return to the Chelsea team against Hull City on Saturday

According to Sky Sources, Diego Costa has returned to first team training with Chelsea – but what could this mean for the Blues?

Over the past few days, Diego Costa has been involved in a high-profile spat with Chelsea and Antonio Conte, with a reported bid from a Chinese side unsettling the Spanish forward.

He has, reportedly, been seeking a transfer – which led to his dismissal from the Chelsea first team over the weekend against Leicester City.

Many thought that the Spaniard could be set for a departure, but as time passes – that is looking less and less likely. Not only are the BBC reporting that Chelsea are unwilling to sell – but with the Spaniard now returning to first team training, it seems as though Conte has got the Spaniard back on side.

The immediate question, then, is whether he should come straight back into the Chelsea team this weekend against Hull City, considering the Blues’ fine performance against Leicester City over the weekend.

Simply put, he should NOT be involved – and here are 2 reasons why…

Leicester City Performance

Against Leicester City, Chelsea proved that they did not need Diego Costa to win against good teams.

Now, Costa has been stellar this season. He has scored on a near-weekly basis, and his goals have been vital as Chelsea continue to impress at the top of the Premier League.

But against Leicester City, the Blues looked dominant. There was no sign of needing Diego Costa, and in truth – the Blues looked better than they have in weeks.

The fluid false-9 appears to work well with the players that Conte has, and Diego Costa shouldn’t get back into the team as a result.

Bad Precedent

If Diego Costa comes straight back into the Chelsea first team, it sets a terrifying precedent for the future of Conte’s Chelsea.

If all is forgiven and forgotten, then what is to stop any other player doing exactly what the Spaniard has?

It is clear that the motive for Costa’s desire to leave was money, and if he ends up playing and getting the deal that he wanted – then his poor actions will have been justified and worthwhile.

Conte needs to ensure that he is the boss, and he cannot allow actions like that to go without punishment. A game on the sidelines is what he deserves.
