If Diego Costa comes straight back into the Chelsea first team, it sets a terrifying precedent for the future of Conte’s Chelsea.

If all is forgiven and forgotten, then what is to stop any other player doing exactly what the Spaniard has?

It is clear that the motive for Costa’s desire to leave was money, and if he ends up playing and getting the deal that he wanted – then his poor actions will have been justified and worthwhile.

Conte needs to ensure that he is the boss, and he cannot allow actions like that to go without punishment. A game on the sidelines is what he deserves.
