Antonio Conte will surely be looking at signing a few players this month…

The Blues have done fantastically well this season, but their lack of squad depth is clear for all to see.

Conte has largely been limited to using a small group of 13 or 14 players this season, and when you’re looking to compete on all fronts for an entire season – that just simply isn’t good enough.

The importance of domestic competition in the Premier League means that young players are rarely risked, and so spending a bit of money on experienced talent would certainly be a wise move for the Italian boss.

Given his experience in his native Italy, Conte has frequently looked towards Serie A so far, but it might be time for him to look elsewhere. More specifically, he could look towards La Liga – with the Spanish league quickly emerging as one of Europe’s most competitive divisions.

When it comes to positions that need reinforcement, a lack of depth in the middle-of-the-park, with just Fabregas, Kante and Matic available to Conte, means that the midfield could do with an upgrade – with a host of players on offer in La Liga.

With that said, Conte should try and sign these 2 La Liga midfielders in January…

Steven N’Zonzi

If Conte wants a more defensive option, Steven N’Zonzi could be his man.

Familiar to Premier League fans from his time with Stoke City, N’Zonzi has emerged as one of La Liga’s most impressive players in recent years – and has this season become a real star with Sevilla.

A defensive midfielder by trade, N’Zonzi is comfortable playing in a more central role if necessary – and his outstanding ball retention and playmaking ability make him the perfect partner to N’Golo Kante.

Nemanja Matic has performed well, but N’Zonzi would be a great alternative.

James Rodriguez

If an attacking player is more to the taste of Antonio Conte, then James Rodriguez could be a great target.

Undoubtedly an audacious option, Rodriguez’s lack of game time for Madrid could mean a move to Chelsea could be tempting for the Columbian, and he would undoubtedly be a star for the Blues.

Able to play in the centre or out wide, Rodriguez’s arrival would make up for the departure of Oscar – with the Brazilian’s departure now leaving Chelsea without a natural number 10 in the first team.

Skilful, dynamic and a set-piece specialist – Rodriguez is exactly what Chelsea need.
