Marcos Alonso has, arguably, been one of Chelsea’s poorer players this season – but the Spaniard proved all his critics wrong against Leicester City…
He has been solid all season, but rarely has Alonso lit the Premier League up – but against Leicester City, he was easily the best player on the pitch.
The highlight was, of course, his goals – with the Spaniard popping up with Chelsea’s first 2 goals. The first, a tidy finish with his right foot, was vital as Chelsea impressed early on – and his second was an impressive strike from the outside of the box.
Both goals were stunning, but that is only the half of it. Alonso was on fire all game long, from defence to attack. He was solid at the back, with the likes of Jamie Vardy often threatening – whilst his offensive game spread beyond just his goals.
He offered Chelsea a real threat down the left-hand side – with much of the Blues’ attack going through him.
A standout performance from Alonso has been a long time coming, but this game was undoubtedly his best yet – and could be a sign of things to come.
Whilst often critical of him, the Chelsea fans erupted on Twitter throughout the game in response to his goals and his performance – and unsurprisingly, they were absolutely delighted.
