Of all the players in the Chelsea first team, Nemanja Matic has, arguably, been the worst…
This must be taken with a grain of salt, of course, given that in general – the Blues have been unstoppable this season.
Most players over the last few weeks have been near perfect, and so even a bad performance would be considered decent in any other side – but Chelsea must ensure that they are always striving for perfection.
Conte simply cannot persist with the same players each and every week, and he must instead be looking to freshen up his side on a fairly regular basis.
It would make sense, then, that Nemanja Matic spends a bit of time on the sidelines in order to give another player a chance – and Chelsea have a couple of stellar midfielders ready and waiting in the wings.
With that said, these 2 players should start for Chelsea against West Brom instead of Nemanja Matic…
Nathaniel Chalobah is a young player that has been in and around the Chelsea first team for years now – and it would appear as though Antonio Conte could be the manager to finally bring him into the first team picture.
He has proven with recent loans that he is more than ready for the Premier League, and in many ways he is very similar to Nemanja Matic.
Good on the ball, strong, technical and defensively minded – Chalobah has it all.
He is the perfect replacement.
Cesc Fabregas is the logical replacement and was the man that took the place of Matic last weekend.
He is a very different beast to Chalobah – but would be a decent choice all the same.
The Spaniard is far more offensive, and offers a better eye for a pass – and this might be a better option against West Brom.
He also has experience on his side, which is crucial in the Premier League.
