In truth, up until the last minute, the Black Cats rarely threatened Thibaut Courtois’ goal – with the Blues looking dominant throughout.
Nonetheless, Costa had an uncharacteristically quiet evening – having to settle for scraps and odd chances, neither of which proved to be very useful for the Spaniard.
It took a wonder save for Courtois in the final moments to seal the points for the Blues, and what a huge 3 points it could be.
