Unfortunately, it would appear that John Terry is embarking on his Chelsea swansong…

The legendary Chelsea skipper has been the most important player in the Chelsea first team for over a decade, but under Antonio Conte – it appears clear that he is being phased out.

A 3 man defence was never going to suit the veteran centre-half, and at 35 years old; he is certainly entering the final few years of his career.

His final Chelsea appearance will undoubtedly be a sad one, but with his contract expiring at the end of the season – it appears likely that that day will come sooner, rather than later.

Chelsea must continue to look forward, however, and Antonio Conte must prepare for the inevitable. Chelsea have had a talismanic centre-half in the heart of the defence for years – and John Terry must be replaced successfully.

With that said, these 2 defenders would be great John Terry replacements at Chelsea – agreed?

Niklas Sule

Niklas Sule is a towering 6ft5 defender – and he looks every part the strong, talismanic defender that Antonio Conte will crave.

His frame is deceiving, however, as unlike John Terry – he possesses mobility and relative pace; and that in turn makes him a complete defender.

The Chelsea captain has become renowned for sticking his head in, and doing anything he can to keep his team ahead – and Sule is definitely of that ilk.

At 21-years-old, Sule is experienced far beyond his years, and Conte would struggle to do better than him in the heart of the Chelsea defence.

Andreas Christensen

A big part of John Terry’s aura at Chelsea is the fact that he grew up with the club, and so it would make sense to replace him with a player that has taken a similar path.

This is where Andreas Christensen steps in.

Christensen is slightly different in that he has gone abroad to develop; but he will come back to Chelsea at the end of the season every bit as good as John Terry was at his age.

Like JT, he reads the game perfectly – and what he might lack in technical skill he more than makes up for in outright determination and commitment.

Christensen has grown up at Chelsea, and he knows the club inside out – and that is so valuable in the modern game.

Conte has struggled thus far to sign a big money defender. Could his answer lie closer to home?
