With the season now well underway, the time has come to conduct a quarterly review of Chelsea’s season so far…

A decent start was contrasted with a couple of big defeats early on – but Antonio Conte has completely revolutionised the Blues over the last few weeks.

They have gone from an ordinary, depleted mid-table side and have turned into a team that looks set to challenge for the title this season.

The Blues have not been perfect, but they have got a lot of things right – and it is time to take note of them.

With that said, here are 3 things that Chelsea and Antonio Conte have got right this season…

Formation Switch

This one cannot be doubted.

Antonio Conte has completely revolutionised Chelsea’s system in the last few weeks – and the switch to a 3-4-3 has been a revelation.

The Blues have the perfect balance of attack and defence with the system – and Conte deserves all the credit in the world for that.

A simple formation change has transformed the Blues.

Player Selection

Chelsea’s player selection has also been bang on.

Several players like Hazard, Matic and Cahill have all looked poor at points over the last year – but Conte has persevered and managed to get the best out of them; and when they are on form there are few better options in the whole of Europe.

Conte has found a team that fits his system and works perfectly; and that normally takes several months to find. That could be the difference for Chelsea this season.

Signings

A few eyebrows were raised at Chelsea’s transfer business over the summer.

N’Golo Kante’s signing was an excellent one, and he was expected to perform – which he has.

The signings of both Alonso and David Luiz were met with a bit of criticism, though –  but fast forward several weeks and both look like masterstrokes.

They have both been unstoppable in recent weeks, and have settled right into Chelsea’s new system.

A season that looked pretty good has actually turned into one of the best in recent memory.
