Conte simply must sign these 2 Italian defenders – agreed?

Antonio Conte has, unsurprisingly, been looking towards his native Italy as he looks to continue his Chelsea revolution…

Marcos Alonso was signed over the summer as he moved from Serie A to the Premier League, and more are expected to follow over the next few transfer windows.

Italy has become a hub of under-the-radar talent in recent years, and for the most part – the market has been ignored by the Premier League.

Conte is seemingly looking to buck that trend, and whilst Italian players are spread throughout Europe – Conte should make it his mission to ensure that they come to the Premier League.

Chelsea’s weakest area at present is, undoubtedly, the defence – and Antonio Conte must look towards solving the issues in his back-line before anywhere else; and very few countries have as much defensive quality as Italy.

With that said, Conte simply must sign these 2 Italian defenders in January – agreed?

 Matteo Darmian

Matteo Darmian has had a tough time of it at Manchester United – and Antonio Conte could be the man to rescue him from the clutches of Jose Mourinho.

Despite an impressive start to life in the Premier League last season, a post-Christmas slump eventually forced the Italian defender out of the first team – and he has never really regained his position in the side.

This season things have got even worse, having been dropped in favour of an out-of-position Antonio Valencia at right-back – meaning a move away appears likely.

Darmian was a favourite of Conte during his stint as Italy boss – and the defender is already well versed in Conte’s methods.

Make it happen, Conte.

 Alessio Romagnoli

Leonardo Bonucci is the name on the lips of most Chelsea fans when questioned on which Italian defender they would like to sign – but Alessio Romagnoli would offer a far more realistic and, in fairness, more viable option for Antonio Conte.

At just 21-years-old, Romagnoli would be a long-term solution for Conte, and one that could take over the mantle efficiently from John Terry.

Despite his tender years, Romagnoli has become a constant for AC Milan since his arrival – and the next step for him should undoubtedly be to move to a huge club like Chelsea.

This one just makes sense.
