Diego Costa has been on fire for the Blues so far this season, and in truth – Antonio Conte’s side would likely be far further down the table without his contributions.
He is currently top of the Premier League goalscoring chart, which is a testament to just how important he has been – and how important he is going to be for the rest of the season.
It would seem like a logical suggestion, then, to note that Chelsea would likely be keen to extend Costa’s stay in London for as long as possible; and the Daily Mirror are suggesting that this is a priority for Antonio Conte and Chelsea.
In truth, Costa is undoubtedly Chelsea’s most important player – and so it is common sense that Chelsea should look to keep him at the club…

Simply put, at the moment – Chelsea are heavily reliant upon Diego Costa.
Early on in the season, it was Costa’s goals that kept Chelsea in and around the top of the Premier League – with a number of last minute goals and contributions proving vital as Antonio Conte’s men picked up a few consecutive wins.
And whilst Chelsea as a team have improved in recent weeks, Costa has still been an essential part of Conte’s attack – having continued to score and produce excellent performances week after week.
A top tier side is always heavily reliant on a top level striker – and Chelsea are no different.
Personality
Diego Costa is a winner – and Chelsea simply do not have enough winners.
The Spanish forward has come under fire for being hot-headed and aggressive, but that is exactly what Chelsea love about him.
He has a passion and a desire that is a necessity if you want to be a top level player, and without him – Chelsea would struggle.
His personality pushes Chelsea over the line – and he must be rewarded for that.
Ward off Interest
As aforementioned by the Mirror, Costa needs to be given a new deal in order to ward off interest from Atletico Madrid – among other sides.
Diego Costa has been incredible since his arrival in London – and that has inevitably alerted some of Europe’s best clubs.
Tieing a player down to a long-term contract is the easiest way of ensuring that their long-term future will be safe – and Chelsea must ensure that Costa stays.
