After a resurgence towards the end of last season, the Spaniard looked set to regain his spot in the Chelsea first team under Antonio Conte – but the Italian has continually benched him in favor of the midfield steel provided by Nemanja Matic and N’Golo Kante.
Following a formation change, Fabregas’ position in the squad looks very tenuous, with the midfield roles often demanding defensive stability – something that the Spaniard cannot provide.
