3 reasons why Victor Moses must start for Chelsea against Man Utd

Victor Moses has been a revelation at Stamford Bridge so far this season…

The Nigeran midfielder was very much an afterthought under Jose Mourinho, with the Portuguese boss willing to ship him out on loan after loan – but that has changed under Antonio Conte.

The new Chelsea boss seemingly rates Moses highly, and he gave him an opportunity to impress during Chelsea’s pre-season tour of America.

Surprisingly, Moses left the states as one of Chelsea’s standout performers – leaving Conte very little choice but to hold on to him this season.

Whilst he did not feature much in the opening few games, a formation shift against Hull prompted Conte’s hand – and Moses was given a starting berth as a wing-back; and he performed magnificently.

This is a feat that he repeated against Leicester last weekend – and now it is clear: Antonio Conte MUST start Victor Moses against Man Utd – and here’s why…

 Formation

We’re sure that absolutely nobody was expecting to hear this at the start of the season, but simply put: Chelsea cannot function currently without Victor Moses.

The Nigerian is a key reason as to why the 3-4-3 formation switch has worked so well so far, and without him – the Blues risk regressing on all the progress that they have made.

He is the perfect wing-back. He is offensively threatening whilst also retaining defensive stability – and he can do it like nobody else in the Chelsea first team.

He is keeping Ivanovic out of the Chelsea first team for good reason – he is simply so much better.

 Goals

You don’t often associate a right back with goals, but as of late – Victor Moses has been scoring for fun.

He picked up a stunning goal against Leicester after getting onto the end of a fantastic Nathaniel Chalobah assist, and he also scored early on in the season against Burnley.

Never before have Chelsea had such a threat coming down the right-hand side, and this is all alongside unrivalled defensive stability.

Who knew that Moses would become such a prolific right-back?!

 Picked on Form

This is more of a subjective argument – but picking Moses will cement Antonio Conte’s argument that he is picking players based on performances – rather than names.

Typically in the past, Chelsea managers have opted for veterans every single week purely bassed off of name value – that’s the reason why Branislav Ivanovic lasted so long

Moses has been, arguably, Chelsea best player over the last few weeks; and based on form – he is the first name on the team sheet.

Dropping him now would set a dangerous precedent going forward – and Conte must not bow to pressure.
