Cesc Fabregas has struggled to cement his place in the Chelsea first team under Antonio Conte thus far…

The Italian has favoured Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic in the heart of his Chelsea midfield, with the Italian manager valuing the defensive stability and mobility that Matic provides.

Fabregas brings his own qualities, however, and for every game that Conte chooses to bench the Spaniard – he is missing out on what he can bring to the Chelsea first team.

The Blues saw exactly what Fabregas could do during his debut season in England, when the 28-year-old fired Chelsea to the Premier League title with a plethora of goals and assists.

If given the chance, Fabregas could replicate that form this season – and he should be given an opportunity to prove himself against Leicester City this weekend…

With that said, here are 3 reasons why Cesc Fabregas must start for Chelsea against Leicester City – agreed?

Costa Connection

Cast your mind back to the 2014/15 season – and remember how deadly Chelsea were en route to another title win. All of that dominance? It came through Cesc Fabregas.

The Spaniard formed an unstoppable connection with Diego Costa, and the pair linked up for goals on a seemingly weekly basis.

That year was Costa’s most efficient in a Chelsea shirt, and it was also the year in which Fabregas had the most game time. Coincidence? No – when Fabregas plays, Costa usually scores, and when Costa scores – Chelsea usually win.

He must play against Leicester, and you can bet he will play a role when Chelsea score.

Kante Effect

The main criticism that experts have had with regards to Fabregas’ Chelsea performances since his arrival is that he is poor defensively.

Granted, Fabregas certainly lacks the defensive stability and mobility of a player like Nemanja Matic – but with N’Golo Kante alongside him, that shouldn’t be a problem.

The Frenchman’s arrival has revolutionised the way that Chelsea defend, with Kante more than happy to sit back whilst his team mates go forward. This is in stark contrast to Nemanja Matic, who would often leave Fabregas to defend on his own as he rampaged forward.

Alongside Kante, Fabregas would be given the license to roam without fear of his side lacking a man defensively.

His Chelsea Form

It would appear that most Chelsea fans have a very short memory.

In simple terms, Fabregas has been stellar in almost every game he has played for the Blues. Sure, he has had some dips – but who hasn’t?

He is as consistent as any other player in the Chelsea first team, and he has proven that with every performance he has made so far this season.

In fact, Fabregas bagged 2 goals last time the sides met this season – as he proved his worth to Conte in the EFL cup.

Whenever he is called upon you can count on a good performance – and that is a lot more than you can say for a few of the other players in Chelsea’s first team.
