Over the last few weeks, Michael Emenalo has been touted with a Chelsea departure – but that does not look likely.

Michael Emenalo is divisive figure amongst the Chelsea faithful. He is the man that has overseen some of Chelsea’s greatest triumphs in the transfer market – such as a deal for N’Golo Kante this summer – but he has also been at the helm whilst the Blues have let key players, like Kevin De Bruyne, leave the club.

Often given the responsibility of organising transfers, Emenalo’s role naturally causes friction between management and the board – so when transfers don’t do so well, it is often Emenalo that takes the brunt of the criticism.

The departure of Walter Sabatini, Roma’s now ex-Director of Sport, lead to Corriere dello Sport (via Football Italia) reporting that he could be on his way to Chelsea, with Conte firmly behind the move.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are set to keep the faith with Emenalo – and his job with the club is not at risk.

This one is surprising, as Sabatini has been credited with the emergence of players like Radja Nainggolan – whom Chelsea tried so desperately to sign in the summer.

If we’re honest, this one is a little disappointing. Emenalo is clearly a divisive figure – but in recent years; he has done far more harm than good at Chelsea.

He certainly deserves a role at the club, but there are far better alternatives to head Chelsea’s transfer policy – most notably Antonio Conte himself.

Emenalo’s departure now looks firmly off the table, but it remains to be seen whether Sabatini might find a role within the club elsewhere.
