Chelsea could be plotting a sensational move for former Manchester United winger Angel di Maria, according to Spanish media outlet Don Balon.
The 28-year-old spent just one season at Old Trafford after arriving from Real Madrid in the summer of 2014, and netted just four times in 32 appearances for Louis van Gaal’s side.
He left for French giants Paris Saint-Germain in 2015, scoring 15 goals in 44 games in his debut season for Laurent Blanc’s men, but has struggled to reproduce any of that form so far this campaign under new boss Unai Emery.
He has yet to score in the opening nine matches of the season, and the Argentine international appears to want a move away from the French capital to get another shot at the Premier League.
Di Maria’s desire to move seems to have alerted those around Stamford Bridge, but it appears that manager Antonio Conte may have competition from other European clubs to secure the 28-year-old’s signature.
They could clinch a deal for the talented winger when the transfer window reopens in January, and it’s the sort of signing that could give the club a massive boost in their bid to challenge for the title.
That bid has suffered a bit of a setback in recent weeks as, despite winning their opening three league games, the Blues have suffered disappointing defeats to Liverpool and, more recently, Arsenal.
However, they will be aiming to put those defeats behind them when they travel to Hull City at the weekend.
