It’s official! Marko Marin is no longer a Chelsea player.

In 2012, following the Champions League victory, things were rosy at the Bridge. Didier Drogba may have been leaving, but YouTube was garnering hits left, right, and centre from Chelsea fans cooing over their latest signing: Marko Marin.

Marin joined from Werder Bremen for £8m, but in the four years that followed, Marin played just 143 minutes for Chelsea.

Now he’s finally off! As reported in the Daily Mail, Marin has officially joined Greek side Olympiacos on a permanent deal, but it’s now been officially announced by the Greek club.

Marin was dubbed the ‘German Messi’ upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge from Germany, but unable to force his way into the team, he was loaned out to Sevilla, Fiorentina (where he didn’t make a league appearance), Anderlecht (where he only made six) and Trabzonspor.

It’s hardly a surprise to Chelsea fans that Marko Marin isn’t in Antonio Conte’s plans, but it may be more of a surprise that Chelsea were actually able to get rid of a player who has simply floundered for the past four years.
