Former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has admitted that he has retained an affinity for the club since leaving last summer.

The Belgian hitman sealed a £28 million permanent move to Everton after a goal-laden loan spell at Goodison Park in the 2013-14 campaign.

Lukaku, who spent the previous season on loan with West Bromwich Albion, failed to earn regular first-team chances with the Blues’ senior team.

However, he says that the way in which he left Stamford Bridge has not affected what he thinks of the club.

“I’ll always be a fan of that club,” Lukaku told SportVoetball. “Just because I left under the wrong circumstances, the feeling doesn’t disappear.

“They say ‘what if you hadn’t gone?’ But a footballer wants to play. I sent a message after the title to Eden Hazard, as I do if he scores or gives an assist.”
