Chelsea could face stiff competition in their efforts to sign highly-rated Japan international Yoshinori Muto, according to reports.

Last month, the president of FC Tokyo confirmed that the newly-crowned Premier League champions had lodged a bid for the 22-year-old.

Muto, thought to be valued at around £4 million, has been dubbed the ‘Japanese Lionel Messi’ and, according to the Daily Mail, German side Mainz 05 are also now keen.

The report goes on to state that Muto is prepared to snub a switch to Stamford Bridge in the belief that joining the Bundesliga side represents a better career move.
