The president of Japanese outfit FC Tokyo has confirmed that Chelsea have lodged a bid for highly-rated Yoshinori Muto.

Speculation is rife that the Blues are keen on signing Muto – a 22-year-old midfielder who has been dubbed ‘the Japanese Lionel Messi’ – after spotting him last may.

According to some reports, Jose Mourinho tabled a £4 million bid in March and Tokyo chief Naoki Ogane confirmed the interest.

“It is true that Chelsea sent us an offer for Muto,” Ogane told to Sports Nippon. “It is a formal offer with conditions. They want to acquire him in the summer”

I wonder if Chelsea’s new Japanese sponsor has insisted on a Japanese player being in the squad.
