Franz Beckenbauer has warned Europe’s elite against making a move for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira this summer, insisting that he is past his best.

The reported Chelsea target, who was signed by Jose Mourinho for Madrid, has endured an injury-plagued last few years and has made just 15 La Liga starts since August 2013.

The Germany World Cup winner is set to be one of the higher-profile Bosmans available this summer, with Schalke 04 reportedly in poll position to secure his signature.

But Beckenbauer says that the injuries, which include a torn cruciate ligament last season, have taken their toll on Khedira and stripped him of the attribute that once made him unique.

“In his current physical shape Khedira would not help any team forward. He is missing something in each aspect of the game at the moment,” the Kaiser said.

“His ability to keep on running in midfield was key to his game. He does not add much without that…”

Will Mourinho link up with the German once again this summer? Leave us your thoughts below.
