Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has taken a thinly-veiled swipe at Jose Mourinho for failing to lead Chelsea into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The Blues bowed out of the competition on Wednesday as 10-man Paris Saint-Germain earned a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge and moved into the last eight on away goals.

Mourinho’s three-year stint at the Bernabeu ended on a sour note in 2013, after failing to mark his last season with a major trophy and falling out with senior players such as Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas.

The Portguese also struggled to achieve what was arguably his primary objective in the Spanish capital: to lead los Blancos to their 10th Champions League title.

Smarting over Real’s 5-4 aggregate win over Schalke 04, Perez is quoted as saying by AS: “We have got through to the quarter-final, which is not easy. As you know, not everyone have gone to the quarter-finals…”

Despite an unceremonious departure from the club, Mourinho is thought to have parted company with Perez on good terms.
